Description
The Old Vicarage, now a house, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and coursed rubble, with ashlar quoins, and has roughcast render on some surfaces. The roof is slate, with hipped and gabled sections, and includes brick projecting and integral gable-end stacks, as well as two brick ridge stacks. The plan is square.
The north front has three six-over-six sash windows at the first floor, with an eight-over-eight sash and a six-over-six sash below. All these windows have keyed flat stone lintels and stone sills. The central front entrance has an open-bed, pedimented canopy supported on plain pilasters, leading to a six-panelled door and fanlight with radial glazing bars. The east return side has a two-window range of multi-pane casements at the first floor and PVC windows below. The rear, facing south, has a two-storey, three-window range of six-over-six sashes, with two windows below, all with matching lintels and sills. A single-storey and attic service wing, fitted with 20th-century windows, projects to the east.
The interior has not been inspected.
Attached to the east of the north wall are walls and gatepiers forming a service courtyard, connecting to a boundary wall extending 70 metres to the north of the house. This boundary wall terminates in a pair of entrance gateways with two gatepiers. There are three further piers marking the splay of the walls. The walls are of rubble stone construction with ashlar coping and moulded brick copings. The gatepiers are of coursed rubble with ashlar pyramid caps. A cast-iron framed, railed, and double cross-braced entrance gate completes the arrangement.
