Description

The Old Rectory, now two houses, dates from the late 16th or early 17th century. It is timber-framed and plaster with a stone-tile roof, featuring a gable to the road and a rooflet over a rubble external stack with spurred composite brick chimneys to the left returned side. The front elevation is of two storeys and an attic, originally a single-window range. A 20th-century three-light casement sits within chevron-braced panels beneath a moulded bressumer on consoles to the gable head. A 19th-century four-light casement with clerestory lights in a beaded frame is contained within post-and-panel framing, also under a moulded bressumer on consoles. A 19th-century casement is visible on the left returned side. A rear wing features a spurred brick lateral stack, and a rubble lean-to provides recessed access flanked by two 19th-century three-light casements. The right returned side displays chevron bracing with a 19th-century four-light casement under a simple hood, over a moulded bressumer on enriched consoles, and post-and-panel framing. A wing to the right (No. 146) is constructed of similar materials and incorporates a 19th-century spurred end stack. It is a single-storey and attic structure with a plank door under a gable containing a 20th-century two-light casement, a 19th-century three-light casement, and an advanced gabled wing with a 20th-century bay window under a pentice roof. A roof dormer features a two-light casement. The interior was not inspected. No. 147 was added to the listing on 28th October 1969.
