Description
Lady's Bridge, built around 1808 for Charlotte, Lady Dungannon, features an attached set of gate piers, gates, and railings. The bridge is constructed from regularly coursed and dressed sandstone with an ashlar parapet. It has a single elliptical arch made of rusticated voussoirs and a raised keystone, along with a flat string course, pilasters, and an embattled parapet that ramps down on the west side. The gate piers, gates, and railings are located at the eastern approach. The piers are made of sandstone ashlar, with a square section and moulded panels on the sides, topped with moulded capping and shallow pyramidal caps. The wrought iron gates feature spiked and arrow-shaped railings, with similarly shaped finials and cylindrical standards at the east end. Spur stones are present on the bridge. An inscription at Brynkinalt in Clwyd indicates that Lady Dungannon 'embellished' the associated park between around 1808 and 1812, suggesting that the bridge was part of this development. Lady's Bridge spans the River Ceiriog, which marks the border with Wales.
