Description
The ice house, located approximately 550 metres southeast of Acton Burnell Hall, is likely from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick, with coursed sandstone rubble flanking the entrance. The building has a rectangular plan, featuring rubble retaining walls that support a segmental entrance arch leading to a low doorway. Inside, there is a barrel-vaulted ceiling, with the entrance positioned high on the north side. A low earth mound covers the structure. The ice house is situated on the northern slope of Acton Burnell Hill, southwest of Shadwell Lake, within the grounds of Acton Burnell Hall.
