Description
The Church of St Mary is a Grade I listed building located on Church Street. It has Norman origins but was largely rebuilt and restored in the Perpendicular Gothic style by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1849. This parish church is constructed of stone with a slate roof and features a nave with aisles, a chancel, and transepts. The west tower is in the Perpendicular style, incorporating some Norman work at its base. The early 14th-century south chancel chapel boasts a fine Perpendicular timber roof, while the late Perpendicular north chapel adds to the church's architectural interest. Notable monuments within the church include one from around 1300 featuring an effigy of a knight, as well as a tomb chest with effigies of Francis Kynaston, who died in 1581, and his wife.
