Description
Numbers 8 (Old Cottage) and 10 are a house or part of a house that dates back to the 15th or 16th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century and mid-20th century. The building is timber framed, constructed using cruck techniques, with painted brick nogging and a cement-rendered front that imitates the framing. It has a slate roof and features a baffle entry plan with two or three framed bays, likely originally part of a hall house. The structure is two storeys high and has a roughly central brick ridge stack. The front has three windows, which are 20th-century small-paned, two-light wooden casements. There are boarded doors located between the first and second, and the second and third windows from the right, with the leftmost door featuring a gabled porch and a small window to the side. The right-hand gable end displays exposed framing, including a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts. There are 20th-century additions at the rear. The interior has been partly inspected, revealing a full cruck truss in the left-hand end wall with a collar and low tie-beam. The left-hand ground-floor room contains large joists and an open fireplace with a chamfered wooden lintel.
