Description
No. 6 Dodington is a house that was formerly part of a larger residence. It dates from the early 19th century but includes some fabric that likely dates back to the 15th or 16th century. The building is constructed of red brick and has a timber-framed core made using cruck construction. It features a slate roof and has a lobby entry plan, suggesting it was once part of a hall house. The exterior includes a rendered plinth and a dentil brick eaves cornice, with a roughly central brick ridge stack. The front has two windows, which are 16-pane glazing bar sashes with painted stone cills and lintels. There is a central boarded door that is sheltered by a gabled porch.
Inside, there is a collar and tie-beam roof truss with queen struts. At the time of the survey in November 1986, no framing was visible internally, but the right-hand end wall, which is shared with No. 8 Dodington, contains a full cruck truss. It is believed that Nos. 6 and 8 were once part of the same house, and No. 6 was likely timber framed before its early 19th-century rebuilding.
