Description
The Church of St John the Baptist has its origins in the 12th century, with the core dating back to that time. The north aisle was built in the late 12th century, while the south arcade and aisle, as well as the tower, were constructed in the 13th century. The chancel was rebuilt and transepts were added around 1320. The upper part of the tower and the timber-framed clerestory date to around 1500. The east window features some painted glass from the mid-14th century. Inside, there is a notable collection of monuments to the Blount family from the 15th and 16th centuries, including a six-poster tomb located in the north transept. The church retains its old roofs in the chancel, transepts, and nave. Additionally, there are numerous mural tablets from the 17th and 18th centuries dedicated to the Childes family, and a fine alabaster figure from the 15th century that represents the Trinity.
