Description
The forecourt walls, gate piers, and gate located approximately 20 metres to the east of Longner Hall were built around 1803, likely by the architect John Nash. Constructed from red sandstone ashlar, the structure is L-shaped and approximately 80 metres long, returning to the north-east with the gate piers. It features a moulded plinth and chamfered coping that ramps up to the west. The square piers have moulded plinths, arched-panelled sides, and pyramidal caps. The central part of each section is balustraded with 4-centred arched arcading. The solid return wall to the north-east includes a pair of octagonal gate piers with moulded plinths, battlemented pyramidal caps, and a 3-bar wooden gate between them. The grounds of Longner were landscaped by Humphry Repton around 1803-1804, and his Red Book is kept in the house.
