Description

Llan Farmhouse is a late 16th or early 17th century farmhouse, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble with hard Silurian limestone used for the rough angle quoins, and has a slate roof. The original two-cell plan was extended to the left by one bay, which incorporates a semi-basement. The farmhouse is one storey and attic in height with a semi-basement to the left. Modern casements are visible on the ground floor, with two to the left and one to the right of a half-glazed door approached by external lateral stone steps. Three gabled eaves dormers were added in the 20th century. The semi-basement has a boarded door with a glazed panel to the top on the left and modern casements to the right. Integral end stacks are present, each with a dripstone.

The interior has timber-framed cross walls with square panels, including the dividing wall between the two rooms of the semi-basement. Wide stone steps, in a straight flight, are accessed through a corridor to the rear, leading up to the right-hand ground-floor room. This room contains a stone inglenook fireplace with original jambs to the right and a chamfered wooden lintel. A chamfered cross beam with run-out stops is also present. A plank door with L-hinges to the left of the stack leads to an oak winder staircase. The first floor has wide boarded floorboards and an exposed collar and tie beam roof in three bays, with the right bay divided by a partition wall. The oak winder staircase in the centre bay descends to the ground-floor room in front of the stone steps.
