Description
No. 3 Saint Mary's Street is a former savings bank, now divided into flats, built in 1846. The building is constructed of painted sandstone ashlar, with red brick on the rear and sides. It features a hipped roof covered with 20th-century concrete tiles and is designed in a neo-Classical style. The structure has two storeys and includes a moulded plinth and an interrupted cill string course.
Each floor is adorned with Tuscan pilasters; the ground floor has a full entablature, while the first floor features a frieze, a moulded cornice, a blocking course, and a central triangular pediment. There is an integral brick lateral stack on the left side. The façade is arranged in a 2:1:2 bay configuration with a central break, and it has glazing bar sash windows.
A central recessed porch is supported by unfluted Ionic columns in antis and leads up three steps to a pair of half-glazed panelled doors with a rectangular overlight. The frieze on the first floor is inscribed with "INSTITUTED. A.D. 1818" / "BANK FOR SAVINGS" / "ERECTED. A.D. 1846". The building also features deep eaves on the sides.
