Description
The former bull pens, shelter sheds, loose boxes, and foldyard walls are located approximately 25 metres to the west of Cronkhill and date from the early 19th century. Constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond with stone hinge blocks, the buildings feature hipped slate roofs and have an F-plan layout with chamfered corners. They are single-storey structures with openings that have bull-nose brick reveals.
To the west, the former bull pens include eight segmental-headed boarded doors and slatted wooden windows to the east. The loose boxes and shelter sheds to the north have a passage at the east end, with segmental-headed loose-box boarded doors on the north and east sides. There are also two open-fronted shelter sheds to the south, which have cast iron columns alternating with slatted wooden windows. The central range of shelter sheds has a 9-bay open front to the south, supported by cast iron columns, and features boarded feeding doors in the wall to the north, along with segmental-headed boarded doors at the east end.
Stone-coped brick walls enclose the northern foldyard to the east and the southern foldyard to the south and east, with the southern courtyard featuring a 20th-century corrugated iron roof. Although the interiors were not inspected, they are reported to contain stalls and other fixtures, as well as cobbled floors in parts and king-post roof trusses. These buildings are part of a complete early and mid-19th century model farm complex, as noted in the National Trust, Attingham Park Estate Vernacular Building Survey.
