Description
This barn, located approximately 20 meters east of numbers 6 and 8 in Hopton Castle, dates back to the early 17th century and has undergone some later alterations. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a rendered rubblestone plinth, topped with a plain tile roof. The barn has a wide full-height entrance in the second bay from the south, with doorways on both the far left and right sides, as well as two eaves hatches in the center.
Inside, the framing is visible, consisting of square panels with three sections from the cill to the wall-plate, supported by long straight tension braces that also divide the bays. The roof has a single-purlin structure (originally a double-purlin) and spans six bays, with raking struts connecting the tie beams to the principal rafters. The north end truss features a collar and tie beam, while the south gable end displays a criss-cross pattern, similar to the gable ends of The Old Granary.
