Description
Ty-Sanley is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 17th century and remodelled in the late 18th century, with later additions and alterations. The building features a timber frame that has largely been replaced by painted uncoursed limestone rubble and has a slate roof. The hall range consists of 2½ unequal framed bays, with a flush 2-bay cross-wing to the right and a late 18th-century range at right angles to the rear of the hall range. The house has one storey and an attic, with late 19th-century and 20th-century casements. There is one casement to the right of a boarded door, which is under a late 19th-century gabled hood to the left of the hall range, and one on each floor of the cross-wing. A prominent late 19th-century internal red brick end stack is located to the left of the hall range, with a similar stack at the rear gable of the cross-wing.
Inside, the main ground-floor room of the hall range, which serves as the kitchen, features a chamfered spine beam, heavy joists, and an inglenook fireplace with a moulded wooden overmantel. The wall between the hall range and the cross-wing has square panelling on the ground floor. The roof has double-purlin construction with Queen struts, and some trusses are exposed. There is a 19th-century outbuilding attached to the left, which is not of special architectural interest.
