Description
Old Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that has seen later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill and painted uncoursed rubble on the gable ends, topped with a graded slate roof. The building has a two-cell plan and is one storey high with an attic. The framing consists of irregular square and rectangular panels, with three panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate. To the left of a roughly central four-panel door, there is a mid-19th century fixed-light window, and to the right, a gabled eaves dormer. An integral end stack with a red brick shaft is located to the left. There is a 20th-century flat-roofed extension to the right, which is not of special architectural interest. The cottage was formerly known as No. 1, Railway Cottage.
