Description
Bucknell House, formerly known as the Old Vicarage, is a house located in Bucknell, originally built in the early 19th century with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of red brick, which was previously colourwashed, and features low-pitched hipped slate roofs with wide eaves and tall end stacks on the main block. The main range consists of three bays, with a three-bay range projecting to the right and a one-bay range set back to the left. The building has two storeys and is adorned with glazing bar sashes that have gauged heads. The ground floor windows of the main range are set in segmental-arched recesses, while the first floor windows are reduced in size, with a small casement in the angle with the right range.
The central entrance features a 19th-century half-glazed door with panelled reveals and shutters, sheltered by a contemporary wooden Doric porch that has slender columns and decorative triglyphs and metopes on the entablature. On the rear elevation, the main range has four windows, with the two-bay range at the rear of the left range slightly projecting to the right.
Inside, the house includes an oak staircase to the right of the entrance hall, which has a wreathed handrail supported by turned balusters and an open string. There are original six-panel doors throughout the house and a marble fireplace in the rear left room. According to the owner, the house was built in 1815.
