Description

Horton Villa is a cottage dating back to the 17th century, with additions and alterations made later. It is constructed of timber framing with painted brick infill, and has a slate roof. The building is single storey with an attic, and features two or three framed bays. The timber framing incorporates a mix of square and rectangular panels, two and three panels from sill to wall-plate. Parts of the framing have been rebuilt in brick and painted black and white to resemble timber frame construction. A slightly overhanging collar is visible on the left gable end, along with single-purlin ends on the right. A mid-19th century casement window with a shutter is located to the left of the mid-19th century boarded front door. A contemporary fixed-light window sits to the left of a plank door positioned to the right of centre. A gabled timber framed dormer with a three-light casement window is directly above the boarded door. An internal red brick end stack is located behind the ridge to the left. The interior was not accessible during a resurvey in February 1986, but is likely to be of interest.
