Description

The Quarry is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with an extension added in the 18th century. The building features a painted timber frame with painted brick infill and some weatherboarding, all resting on a rubble stone plinth. The east gable is constructed with coursed stone rubble and has ashlar quoins. A central brick chimney has diagonal brick shafts, and there is an integral brick eaves stack at the rear. The farmhouse has a T-shaped plan, consisting of a main range with a central cross wing to the south and an additional south wing extension.

The exterior is two stories high, with a cellar and attic. The east entrance front, which features a projecting gable to the right, is an 18th-century rebuild made of coursed rubble. It has 20th-century casements beneath flat stone keyed lintels, with a keystone at ground level. The end roof truss is rendered, and the south return side has square framing. The cross-wing on the east side to the left has square framing at the first floor, underbuilt with brick on a stone plinth, and is partly obscured by a lean-to entrance porch. The return gable-end of the cross wing retains its square framing, except for the weatherboarding above the collar of the end truss.

On the north return side, there are three bays of square framing, four panels high, which includes a girding beam, studs with middle rails, and a brace. A central 20th-century door and porch are present, along with two-light casements. The rear, facing west, features a projecting square-framed gable-end to the left with weatherboarded truss and casements on both the first and ground floors. To the right, the cross wing's west side has square framing and a three-light casement, which is masked at ground level by a tile-roofed framed outshut. The south extension wing is single-storey with an attic, featuring square-framed attic floors set on a rubble ground floor with brick to the west. The gable-end truss framing includes three vertical struts and a collar, which is infilled and underbuilt with brick. The dormers and ground-floor windows have 20th-century casements. The interior has not been inspected.
