Description
This is a group of three chest tombs located approximately 3 metres to the east of the apse of the Church of St. John the Baptist. They date from the early to mid-19th century and are made of sandstone ashlar.
The largest tomb, situated to the south, features rounded corners, panelled pilasters, and inscription panels, along with a moulded plinth and hipped capping with rounded corners. It commemorates Anne Griffiths, who died in 1825, and Richard Griffiths, who died in 1837. The coffin slab on this tomb is shaped like a coffin and has 'R G' in raised lettering.
The tomb to the north-west dates from around 1800 and has quarter columns at the corners and hipped capping. It is dedicated to the Powell family. The tomb to the north-east, also from around 1800, has Gothic quatrefoil-panelled sides, trefoil-headed panels on the corner pilasters, and hipped capping. This tomb is for the Phillips family.
