Description
The former level-crossing keeper's cottage, now disused, is located immediately to the northwest of Gobowen Railway Station. It was built around 1848 by Thomas Penson Junior for the Shrewsbury and Chester Railway.
The cottage is constructed of stuccoed red brick sitting on a stone plinth. It features a low-pitched hipped slate roof with two ashlar ridge stacks that have moulded capping, and a dentilled cornice at the center. The building is designed in the Italianate style and has an L-plan layout. It is a single-storey structure with a central four-panel door framed by a lugged architrave and a moulded entablature supported by carved consoles. On either side of the door, there are glazing bar sash windows in similar surrounds.
