Description
Murivance House and Allatt House, originally a school and later a health centre, were built around 1800 by John Hiram Haycock for John Allatt. The building is constructed of ashlar facing brick, with a hipped Welsh slate roof. It comprises a central block flanked by lower pavilions, creating a symmetrical composition.
The central block is two storeys high with four bays, featuring doorways with six-panelled doors and overlights within architraves, each topped by a flat entablature. The windows are 12-pane sashes, with the central window being blind, though glazed. A plinth, sill band, and eaves parapet run along the building, and the cornice incorporates a raised panel inscribed "Founded by John Allatt gent MDCCC.”
Flanking the central block, the pavilions are linked by a triple-arched arcade, now glazed and containing doors and windows. These pavilions are two bays wide, with full-height recesses housing 12-pane sash windows. Both pavilions feature a plinth and parapet. A sundial with incised numerals is set into the return wall of the right-hand pavilion.
