Description
29 and 31 Bridge Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, offices, and dwellings. It dates from the late 14th century to early 15th century, with later alterations. The building features roughcast, timber-frame, and plaster, topped with a pantile roof that has a gable on the left and a stack at the rear. It has a three-bay plan and stands two storeys high, with a three-window range. The windows include 20th-century metal casements under simple hoods and a 19th-century three-light casement with a moulded architrave on the gable. Inside, cusped braces create trefoil panels beneath a massive cambered tie-beam and collar, and there are weathered carved barge-boards. The entrance to the left, leading to No. 29, is deeply recessed under massive soffit beams and features an ogee-headed opening with an early 20th-century four-panel door and a plain overlight in a moulded case. To the right is a 20th-century eight/eight sash window. The central entrance to No. 31 has a 19th-century half-glazed door in a moulded doorcase, flanked by 20th-century lights with upper casements, and there is a probable bressumer and a rendered addition to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
