Description
The Church of St Peter is a parish church that dates back to the 11th or 12th century, with alterations made in the 13th century, a south porch added in the 17th century, and further changes to a window on the north wall. It underwent extensive restoration in 1895. The building is constructed from sandstone rubble with some tufa dressings and features a 20th-century Welsh slate roof.
The church consists of a nave with a south porch and a chancel. The nave has raised verges and a west bell cote, with a 2-light 19th-century window with a square head to the left and a similar 3-light window to the right of the gabled 17th-century south porch, which has a 4-centred arched head and chamfered jambs. The inner doorway of the porch is similar in style. The chancel features a wooden moulded segmental-headed doorway and a 2-light window to the right. The east window is Norman with a semi-circular headed light, and there is a similar window on the north wall of the chancel.
Inside, the church contains a panelled pulpit dated 1632, panelled 17th-century choir stalls, and a 13th-century font with an octagonal bowl and stem. There is also a primitive "dug-out" wooden chest against the south wall of the chancel.
