Description

Petty France Farmhouse is likely a 17th-century farmhouse, with later 19th and 20th-century additions. The building is timber-framed and has a rubble casing, with a plain tiled roof and a local-style external stack with a detached shaft to the left. It is two stories high and originally three bays wide. The ground floor has a 3-light casement window to the left, a 2-light casement to the right, and two 2-light casements on the upper floor, all roughly symmetrically placed. A central 20th-century ledged door serves as the entrance.

Inside, a dog-leg staircase, probably dating from the early 18th century, is a notable feature. The ground floor has been divided longitudinally on the right-hand side by unusually wide-spanning roof trusses. Original 17th and 18th-century floorboards remain. A mid-20th century rear extension obscures the original timber frame. The roof was thatched until around 1939.
