Description

Burford Cottage is probably a 17th-century cottage, with a 19th-century extension and later alterations. It is timber-framed with plaster infill. The roof is tiled, and there is an external sandstone rubble end stack with a brick shaft. The cottage originally comprised two bays, with a single-bay extension aligned roughly east/west. It has one storey and an attic. The north elevation features two windows in gabled dormers, which are mid-20th century casements of two lights. On the ground floor are three small, mid-20th century windows, two to the left, and one to the right of a 20th-century stable door. The timber frame is three square panels high from the cill to the wall-plate, which has angle struts to the corner posts. To the left is a full-height extension with small lean-tos to the front and side, the latter containing a ledged entrance door and a two-light mid-20th century casement. Inside, there is a roof truss with two posts, each supporting principals and tied back to wall-plates.
