Description

The Brace memorial is a chest tomb located about 10 metres south-east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary. It commemorates Thomas Brace, who died in 1808. The tomb is made of ashlar and features bold corner balusters adorned with sprigs of wheat. It has a raised inscription panel framed by husk borders, a moulded cornice, and a bevelled top. The inscription reads: "Sacred to the Memory/ of/ Thomas Brace/ who departed this life/ 29th day of November/ 1808/ Aged 89 Years". This memorial is a fine example of stone masonry and enhances the church's setting, contributing to the group value of other memorials in the churchyard.
