Description
No. 47 New Street is a Grade II* listed building dating from 1820 to 1830, originally serving as an old prison. This small, square building is constructed of red sandstone and features a hipped slate roof. On the ground floor, there are high pointed windows with iron bars flanking the entrance. The first floor has a similar central window, with small blocked windows on either side. The doorway is highlighted by a pointed arch with two orders and a stone panel above. The door is studded and includes a grill, flanked by heavy wide stone pilasters on either side.
