Description
This is a barn and stable built in the 18th century, located about 30 yards northeast of Upper Bridge. The structure features rubble walling with some sections of weatherboarded timber framing and a stone tiled roof arranged in diminishing courses. It consists of four bays that are aligned roughly north to south. The barn occupies the three northernmost bays and includes a central wagon bay with opposing cart entries and double doors. Ventilation slits are present in the rubble sections of the walls. The stable is located at the southern end and has a loft opening along with a stable door on its main west elevation.
Inside, the wall framing includes one row of panels beneath the eaves level and short straight braces in the lower corners. The barn roof is supported by two intermediate arch-braced tie-beam trusses with raking struts, as well as an additional intermediate collar and tie-beam truss featuring three struts and a V-strut above the collar at the partition between the barn and the stable. There are also two tiers of trenched purlins.
