Description
Coddington Vineyard is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, which was remodeled in the late 18th century. It features a timber-framed structure with red brick nogging and brick and stone rubble side walls. The roof is hipped and covered with plain clay tiles, complete with lead rolls along the ridge and hips. The building has brick or stone rubble side and lateral stacks topped with tall brick shafts.
The layout consists of a rectangular double-depth three-bay house, with the right-hand bay being the only part that remains from the original structure. There is a small service wing at the rear right. The exterior showcases a two-storey, three-bay southwest front, with three-light mullion-transom windows fitted with metal casements. The central doorway has a glazed and panelled door, which is now enclosed in a 20th-century conservatory. The side elevations feature external stacks and similar windows. At the rear, there is a single-storey wing on the left with a pent roof supported by timber posts and a lateral stack on the right.
Inside, the right-hand room has a framed ceiling with pyramid stops on the chamfered beams, and a mid-19th century marble chimneypiece with a cast-iron grate. The two left-hand rooms contain chamfered cross-beams; the front room has a large brick fireplace with a cambered timber lintel that is plastered over. The roof structure includes king-post and queen-strut elements.
