Description
Coddington Court is a house that has been converted into offices, dated 1796 on the rear rainwater head. It is constructed of red brick with a slate hipped roof and stands three storeys tall with a garden front featuring five bays arranged as ABCBA, where the C forms a large blind arched recess. The building has a brick modillion cornice at the eaves level and in the pediment, along with glazing bar sash windows. The central entrance features a six-panel door set within a broken pedimented doorcase, supported by attached Tuscan columns, each holding a fragment of a full entablature adorned with triglyphs and an interlaced ogival Gothick fanlight.
The side elevation consists of four bays, primarily featuring blind windows and some refenestration. The rear elevation includes a central four-centred entrance arch. To the right, there is an attached wing, likely from the early 19th century, which has undergone alterations in 1939, featuring two storeys and three bays.
Inside, there is a cantilevered, repositioned top-lit staircase from the 18th century, with a mahogany handrail, plain balusters, an open string, and cut oak brackets. The major ground floor rooms have six-panel mahogany doors and fine fireplaces; the right front room features a grey marble surround and a decorative cast iron basket, while another enriched cast iron basket is found in the first floor front left room.
