Description
The Cider House at Coddington Vineyard is a building likely dating from the 18th century, with some parts rebuilt in the early and later 19th century. It features red brick construction on a stone rubble base and has plain clay tile roofs at three different levels, with gabled ends. The structure is a long rectangular range, with a cider-press located at the northwest end, which has a gable-end entry from a higher ground level. The center section contains a cider-mill, and the southeast end, originally possibly a cartshed, is now used as a garage.
On the southwest front, the building is single-storey with a two-storey center section. It has a long three-window range of metal-frame, two-light casements with glazing bars, and a 20th-century plank door to the right of center, while the left section is blind. The northwest gable end features a doorway from the higher ground level, with a plank door on the left and an adjoining three-light window at the center.
Inside, the center section has a chamfered cross-beam with run-out stops and a large horse-driven stone cider-mill. The northwest section includes a king-post and collar truss with struts and curved cruck-like braces under the collar, along with a cider-press.
