Description
This barn, located to the west northwest of Coddington Vineyard, dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of English garden wall bond brick and features a plain clay tile roof with gabled ends and brick dentil eaves. The barn has three bays, with cart entrances at both the front and back leading to a central threshing bay. The central cart entrance is framed by large doorframe posts and has two tiers of ventilation holes arranged in diamond patterns within the brickwork. Both the front and back elevations are similar, with matching ventilation holes in the gable ends; the southwest end includes a window in the gable.
Inside, the door-posts serve as the posts for the two trusses of the central bay, while the end bays are entirely made of brick. The trusses are of the tie-beam and collar type, featuring struts, two tiers of trenched purlins, and intact common rafters, along with long straight wind-braces. The bays beneath the tie-beams are divided by long curved braces.
