Description

This group of four memorials to the Williams family dates from the early 19th century and is located about 15 metres north-west of the north porch of the Church of St Mary. The memorials are chest tombs made of ashlar and are arranged from south to north.

The first memorial features bold corner balusters, a moulded cornice, a bevelled top, and a slightly raised inscription panel. The inscription reads: "Sacred to the Memory of William Williams Senr of Westbrook in this Parish He died May 16th 1835 Aged 77 Years."

The second memorial is similar to the first but has oval inscription panels with fluted spandrels. Its inscription states: "Sacred to the Memory of Priscilla Wife of William Williams of Westbrook in this parish who died Feb 12th 1827 aged 74 years."

The third memorial has corner pilasters decorated with rows of husks and paterae, a moulded cornice, a bevelled top, and a slightly raised inscription panel. It reads: "Sacred to the Memory of Elizabeth Daughter of William Williams of Westbrook in this Parish by Priscilla his Wife who died January 25th 1823 aged 32 years."

The fourth memorial features bold corner balusters decorated with springs of wheat, with an inscription panel framed by husks and paterae, a moulded cornice, and a bevelled top. The inscription is: "[Sacred to the Memory of] Walter Williams of Dorstone in this County Gent Who died 19th of April 1808 aged 39 years."

These memorials are notable examples of stone masonry and enhance the setting of the church, contributing to the overall group value of the other memorials in the churchyard.
