Description

There are two chest tombs located 3 yards south west of the churchyard cross in Colwall. They date from the 18th century and are made of ashlar stone. The outer tomb is for Dinah Hartland, who died in 1728. It features enriched end panels with putti, corner balusters, and a moulded capping. The nearer tomb is for Ann Hartland, who died in 1783. It has a cubical shape, a fluted frieze with paterae, putti on the west side, corner balusters, and a pyramidal capping that supports a swagged urn, which was broken and lying on its side at the time of re-survey.
