Description
This is a farmhouse, originally dating to the 15th century, with a northeast wing extended during the 17th century. It was re-faced and altered in the mid-19th century and is now divided into three separate dwellings. The farmhouse has a timber frame, primarily featuring square panelling, though the earlier wing displays heavy swept bracing. Some wattle-and-daub infill remains, but most of the walls are filled with brick and 18th-century brickwork. There's a sandstone rubble plinth. Later additions and re-facing are visible on the east side. The building is roofed with slate and has brick stacks.
The original wing runs east to west, with a later wing extending southwards and further additions to the west where the wings meet, and to the south gable end. There are axial and gable-end stacks. Entrances are located on the west and east sides of the south wing, and on the north side of the earlier wing.
The west front displays the gable end of the earlier wing on the left, with a jettied upper floor supported by mutilated brackets and carved ends to the joists. It has a four-light window with glazing bars, and a slightly larger, similar window on the ground floor. An addition in the angle to the right has an 8-pane casement window on the ground floor. The 17th-century wing on the right has a single six-pane casement and a two-light casement window on the ground floor, along with a ledged door with a brick surround to its left and another two-light casement window to its right. A single-storey extension is further to the right.
Inside the earlier wing, two doorways with ogee arches remain. The 17th-century wing retains a damaged cross-beamed ceiling.
