Description

Combe Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the early 16th century for the main wing, with an added wing from the 17th century and some alterations made in the 20th century. The structure features close-studded timber-framing with decorative herringbone framing in the gable of the earlier wing, while the later wing has square panelled framing. The building has a sandstone rubble plinth, with parts painted brick and wattle-and-daub infill, and is topped with slate roofs.

The earlier wing is aligned north/south, with the later wing adjoining and extending to the east. There is a lateral stack on the earlier wing and an axial stack on the later wing, which backs onto a through-passage. The current entrance is located in the 20th-century rebuilding of the north gable end of the earlier wing. The earlier wing has two storeys, while the later wing has a single storey and an attic.

On the south front, the gable end of the earlier wing is to the left, featuring a jettied upper floor that is underbuilt on the ground floor, retaining the jetty on the west side with a moulded bressummer, shaped brackets, and attached shafts. There is a three-light multi-pane 20th-century metal casement window on the first floor and a similar wooden window on the ground floor. The later wing to the right has irregular fenestration, including one four-pane casement window and a two-light glazing bar casement window on the left end, along with two 20th-century windows to the right of a half-glazed 20th-century door. Inside, the main room of the earlier block features a cross-beamed ceiling with heavily moulded main beams and subsidiary joists.
