Description
The Old Rectory is a house that has been divided into two tenements, with an activity hall added after 1918. It has a core dating back to the 15th century, which has undergone extensive alterations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The building features timber framing with a sandstone plinth and brick refacing on the south side. The roof is made of stone slate on the north side and tiles on the south.
The structure consists of three bays aligned east to west, with a later stone addition to the west and an early 20th-century addition extending to the north at the west end. There are two axial stacks and a lateral stack on the south side. The north front has two square-headed doorways in the stone addition to the left, along with two gabled dormers featuring 2-light leaded casements. Below the eaves, there is a central smaller 2-light window, and a 3-light leaded casement flanks a doorway with a triangular head and a ledged door.
To the right, the east return of the 20th-century addition includes a similar gabled dormer and a 2-light casement window on the ground floor to the left of the door. The timber framing on the north and west sides is entirely from the 20th century, as is the current raised roof. However, the interior retains at least one cruck truss and part of another blade, which has been cut at ground floor level.
