Description
Callow House Farmhouse is probably 17th century, with possible earlier origins, and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, brick, painted and rendered, with a Welsh slate roof and brick stacks. The farmhouse is arranged in an L-shape, comprising a four-bay north-north-east wing and a three-bay west-north-west wing. The north wing contains a cellar and has one storey and an attic, while the west wing has three storeys and an attic. The west elevation features a mid-20th century glazing bar casement of three lights to the left, flanked by a pair of ledged mid-20th century doors. The tall gable front to the right has three-light casements on each floor: the top one is likely 18th century and has wrought iron, the middle one is wooden and mid-19th century, and the ground floor one has chamfered stone mullions. Inside, the upper floors of the west wing have high rooms and a roof with plain collar trusses. The ground floor room of the west wing has heavy chamfered ceiling beams arranged in a large cross. The north wing shares similar roof trusses, enclosing what is assumed to be an earlier roof structure.
