Description
The North-west Lodge of the former driveway to Longworth Hall is a building from the 18th century with 20th-century alterations and additions. It is one of a pair of lodges that flank the former driveway to Longworth Hall. The lodge is constructed of ashlar stone and features a hipped slate roof. It has a rectangular plan with later additions at the rear and is designed in a classical style.
The building is a single storey and includes a plinth, a string course, a dentilled eaves cornice, and rusticated quoins. The doorway has a Gibbs surround with a segmental pediment, and the windows have pedimented surrounds with glazing bar sashes. Although the lodges have been attributed to the early 20th century by Pevsner, the interior fittings of the south-east lodge suggest an earlier origin. However, the sharpness of the external details indicates that there has been some restoration. The lodges are depicted in a 19th-century print, copies of which were owned by the owner of the south-east lodge during the resurvey in April 1985.
