Description
Henry Hewes Almshouse is a house dating from the early 17th century that was restored in the mid-20th century. It features a timber-frame structure with brick infill set on a coursed rubble plinth, topped with a tile roof. The building consists of two framed bays aligned north to south, with a central stack and a side lobby entry. The south gable facing the street is a single storey and includes a two-light casement window in the gable that lights the attic. Additionally, there is a flat-roofed dormer on the west side of the attic. The tie-beam and attic floor are jettied, with a square oriel window on the ground floor. The framing consists of three square panels high, supported by straight angle braces and tension braces. The jettied beams are both moulded and dentilled, featuring carved brackets beneath them.
