Description
Burrington Bridge is a road bridge over the River Teme, built in the late 18th century. It is constructed from coursed dressed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a single elliptical arch that has a projecting dropped keyblock and circular flood outlets located in the spandrels. Above the archway, there is a corbel table beneath the parapet. The plain parapet is topped with ashlar coping, and the ends of the bridge are splayed, terminating in rectangular piers with flat capping. The bridge measures about five yards in width and 34 yards in length. Its design is simpler but similar to that of Castle Bridge and Forge Bridge located downstream, all of which are part of the Downton Castle estate and may have been designed by Richard Payne Knight.
