Description

Hotel Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been converted into one dwelling. Originally built in the 17th century, the building was altered in the mid-19th century and restored in the late 20th century. It features a timber frame with painted brick and rendered infill set on a rubble base, along with a rendered rubble wall at the south end. The roof is machine-tiled with a brick ridge stack.

The structure has three framed bays aligned north to south, with a large rubble chimney located between the southern and central bays, creating a lobby-entry plan. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers. The framing consists of three panels from the sill to the wall plate, with a collar and tie-beam truss supported by struts and a V-strut above the collar at the north gable end.

On the east front elevation, all windows are 20th-century casements. The ground floor features three 2-light windows and one 3-light window, while the attic has two gabled dormers with 3-light windows. There is a 19th-century porch with a lean-to roof supported by chamfered arch-braced timber posts, a rendered base, and a 20th-century door flanked by large multi-paned rectangular lights. Attic lights are present in the gable ends. Additionally, there are single-bay gabled rubble additions at the rear of each bay. The interior includes some medieval carved stones built into the main chimney, one of which features a heraldic passant lion.
