Description
This barn, located about 50 yards south-west of Newhouse Farmhouse, is likely from the late 17th century to the late 18th century, with some later alterations. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and timber-frame, featuring weatherboards and a corrugated iron roof. The building has an L-shape layout, consisting of a four-bay range that runs roughly north to south, with a two-bay arm that projects westward from the north end. The west elevation is weatherboarded and has a full-height entry immediately to the right of where the two arms meet. The subsidiary arm to the left is made of sandstone rubble. The south elevation includes a raking-top opening to the east/west arm, with a doorway to the left. Inside, the barn has trusses with V-struts above the collars, supported by queen struts, while the north truss features scissor struts above the collar. The western extension has pegged king-post trusses. At the junction of the two ranges, there is a hip that incorporates an adzed oak gutter. This barn is included for its group value.
