Description

Dippersmoor Manor is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It has a core dating back to the 15th century, with later additions and remodelling from the 16th century, further extensions in the 17th and 18th centuries, and a significant addition in 1845. The building features a mix of timber framing with brick infill and sandstone rubble, topped with stone slate roofs.

The layout is irregular, with the original 15th-century cruck hall still visible, although only two trusses remain on the west side. In the late 16th century, a stone wing was added to the north, which includes a stone winder staircase. The house was further extended to the east and south during the 17th and 18th centuries, and a new wing was added in 1845, extending from the south to the east.

The west front showcases the gable end of the late 16th-century addition on the left, featuring a combination of sandstone rubble and timber framing, with a small two-light casement window in the attic. There are two-light casement windows on the first floor and two-light French casements on the ground floor. The gable end of the 15th-century section on the right reveals one cruck truss, with two-light casement windows on both the first and ground floors. To the right, there is a lean-to extension that includes a two-light casement window and a now-blocked doorway. The current entrance is located on the right-hand return of the lean-to, while the 18th-century wing is set back and features one small window to the left and a two-light casement window to the right. The ground floor also has two three-light casement windows with segmental heads.

Inside, the manor retains fragments of 17th and 18th-century panelling, some of which are elaborately detailed. Several rooms have moulded and chamfered ceiling beams, and the main staircase features shaped splat balusters and a square newel post topped with a shaped finial.
