Description
This pair of gate piers and walls, dating from the early 18th century, were designed and built for Sir Thomas Parkyns of Bunny Hall. The structure features red brick, with some blue brick and ashlar elements. The gate piers, located on Wysall Road, consist of a single pair that rise in two stages, with the lower stage projecting from the upper one, separated by a chamfered ashlar dividing band. Each stage includes a single round-arched niche, and the top stage has recessed ashlar panels. The piers are topped with stepped brick leading to ashlar coping, which is adorned with single ashlar pineapple finials.
Flanking the piers are ashlar-coped brick walls that slope down to meet a wall approximately 2 meters high, which encircles Bunny Park and is built on segmental arches. The wall extends about a quarter of a mile north from the right pier and half a mile west, while from the left pier it extends a quarter of a mile south before curving and continuing for another half mile west, ending in another pair of red brick gate piers. The wall has several gateways and some areas of damage. On the east side, there is a small seated shelter built into the wall. This wall was constructed to enclose the Park of Bunny Hall, which underwent significant improvements and rebuilding under Sir Thomas Parkyns Bart. (circa 1662-1741).
