Description

This building consists of two cottages that have been converted into a single house. It dates from the mid-16th century, with later alterations and extensions from the 17th and 18th centuries, and was converted into a single house in 1952. The original structure is timber framed, with red brick nogging and facing, and a rendered base with rubble plinth in some areas. The roof is slate. There are red brick stacks at the right gable and left external gable.

The house is two storeys high and has seven bays, with the right three bays being the earliest construction. From left to right, the façade features a single tripartite glazing bar casement, a doorway with a plank door, a single glazing bar casement, a very small fixed light, a doorway with a plank door under a segmental arch, and two glazing bar casements. Above these, there are three glazing bar casements and a single small glazing bar casement to the right. Visible timbers include the remains of a single post and a single girding beam in the right single bay, along with two tie plates.

To the left, set back, there is a red brick and slate lean-to with a single glazing bar casement. The interior includes a chamfered beam with lozenge style stops, an 18th-century brick fireplace flanked by single small triangular arched niches, and remains of several posts, a sill beam, and wall plates. The first floor shows remnants of tie beams and a curved brace, along with two plank doors featuring strap hinges.
