Description
Bottom House Farmhouse is an early 18th-century brick farmhouse located on Cropwell Bishop Road. It features a steeply-pitched twin plain-tile roof with a dentil eaves cornice and gable copings on square kneelers. The central valley of the roof is higher than the eaves and accommodates two stacks. The building has a double-depth plan, is two storeys tall with garrets, and presents a symmetrical three-bay facade. The central entrance door is set within a trellis porch, flanked by a single sash window with glazing bars on each side, both featuring a segmental head and keystone. The first floor has three smaller windows. A three-course brick band runs between the floors, raised above the ground-floor openings. The side elevations include a single sash window with glazing bars on both the ground and first floors of the front range, and smaller casement windows in the rear range and garrets, with brick bands between the floors. The garret windows are adorned with brick hood moulds. At the rear, there is a single-storey wing set at a right angle, covered with a pantile roof.
Inside, there is an archway in the hall with a keystone and impost blocks, along with a contemporary dog-leg stair featuring a moulded handrail and later stick balusters. Several early doors are present, some with four fielded panels and moulded architraves. The kitchen contains a cheese-press attached to the wall. The rear wing is arcaded and includes fireplaces, flues, and set pots.
