Description
Top Farmhouse, along with its adjoining service wing and boundary walls, dates from 1702 and the mid-19th century. It was built for Henry and Eleanor Hall. The structure is made of brick and coursed rubble, topped with 20th-century pantile roofs. Features include a rubble plinth, a first-floor band, a cogged second-floor band, cogged and dentillated eaves, and coped gables. The building has a single gable and two ridge stacks, standing two storeys tall with an additional garret. It is L-shaped, measuring two bays wide and five bays deep.
The windows consist of Yorkshire sashes and 19th and 20th-century casements. The front elevation features a gabled wing on the left and a two-storey lean-to porch at the return angle, which has a door with a segmental head. To the right, there is a 20th-century casement and a glazed door, both with segmental heads, followed by a casement and a French window. Further right, a garage door is flanked by single doors, also with segmental heads. Above, to the left, there is a sash window flanked by single casements, and to the right, four casements with segmental heads. The street front has two casements, and above them, to the left, is a similar casement, with a casement to the right and a sash above it. There is a square panel inscribed "Henry Hall/Eleanor Hall/1702."
To the left, the boundary wall is made of brick with a rubble plinth and has half-round brick coping, supported by a pair of square brick piers, extending 25 meters long. To the right, another brick boundary wall with ramped coping measures 5 meters long. The rear elevation features an off-centre door, with a casement and a sash to its right, followed by another door with a segmental head and a casement. Above, there is a sash and a casement. A double-gabled rear wing on the right has two sashes on each floor, all with segmental heads.
