Description
Kegworth Bridge is a road bridge over the River Soar, built in 1785 for Loughborough Navigation. It was widened and restored in 1937. The bridge features five semi-circular ashlar arches, which are separated by single cutwaters with pilasters that extend to the parapet. On either side of the outer arches, there are single walls with raised quoins and outer chamfered rusticated piers. A single ashlar band runs over the arches and walls, topped by an ashlar coped parapet. On the south elevation, there is a plaque that reads: "This bridge was widened in 1937 from 12 feet to 40 feet between parapets, the cost of the work being borne jointly by the counties of Nottingham and Leicester with the aid of a grant from the Ministry of Transport." The western part of the bridge is located in Leicestershire, within the parish of Kegworth.
