Description

The Old School is a house that was formerly a school, built in 1738 for the Burnell Family, with later 18th century and late 19th century extensions. The building is constructed of whitewashed red brick and features a plain tile roof. It has single red brick stacks located on the ridge, at the ridge of the right bay, and at the rear gable of the left bay. The outer single bays have plain bargeboards and finials, while the central bays flanking the doorway have dentil and raised brick eaves.

The structure is two storeys plus an attic and consists of five bays. The outer single bays are gabled, slightly set back, and have first floor bands, with the right bay being a late 18th century addition and the left bay a late 19th century addition. The central bay slightly projects and features a doorway with a panelled door and a relieving arch, along with an open wood and tile gabled porch. On either side of the doorway are single rusticated pilaster strips.

To the far left is a single 20th century casement window, while to the far right is a single tripartite casement window, and there is another single casement under a segmental arch on the right side. Above the doorway is an ashlar plaque with an arched head and an illegible inscription. In the attic, there are two wood and tile gabled dormers, each with a single casement window. The outer gabled bays contain single glazing bar Yorkshire sashes under segmental arches.
